The Client
Is an International Logistics & Distribution Organisation (This company distributes the products for a well known computer hardware manufacturer). They have an operation in Venray, Netherlands, which daily utilises the skills of up to 400 temporary personnel, these people are involved in various functions throughout the distribution centre, such as; fork lift truck driving, order picking, processing, packaging, etching and shipping.

 

The Situation
The same company also has an operation in Daventry in the UK. This site was struggling to meet its production targets, and the normal local sources for temporary personnel could not find, and retain, the numbers of motivated people necessary to meet the production levels. This was causing the client major problems at its own retail stores and to its own end clients.

 

The Solution
The client asked OTTO to come and make an evaluation of the operation in the UK, and for OTTO to propose how they could help with the personnel difficulties. We took an instruction from the client as to what was critical to the business; relevant work experience, English language skills, fork lift truck licenses, motivation, etc.

 

Based on the information received, we made a proposal to the client, in the form of an hourly charge rate, which included;

 

• OTTO recruiting the required numbers of Polish workers and agreeing start dates.
• OTTO arranging all housing and transport (to and from the workplace).
• OTTO making all the necessary legal deductions for tax and national insurance.
• OTTO to ensure that all its personnel have applied for and completed all the required work permit applications.
• OTTO providing account management when required, and welfare support on a 24 hour basis for our personnel.
• OTTO to provide management information in an agreed format.

 

The Future
OTTO has a large number of Polish personnel working throughout the depot. These people were brought into the operation within a matter of days and quickly fitted into the day to day running of the business. The client has stated that they are extremely happy with the attitude and productivity of the personnel and will continue to use OTTO for as long as there is a need for temporary personnel.
